i am excited to use my new season pass at charles river canoe & kayak (thanks groupon!), but i got on a cleaning kick and when that happens… well, let’s just say i should go with it. i have to be in a verrrry specific mood to clean.

i got bored with cleaning (surprise, surprise) and turned to baking. my first round of baked goods for the office was well received and i had meant to bring some scones since i discovered that they are actually pretty easy to make. this round produced coconut scones and raspberry & orange scones (plus a teaspoon of orange zest and minus the egg wash – i just brushed the tops with a little bit of cream:

since i had a whole can of coconut milk, i also made some coconut curried sweet potato soup, though i didn’t have any cayenne pepper or garam masala and i subbed chicken stock for veggie stock. besides waiting for the sweet potato to cook, it was extremely quick and easy. with one potato, it made two servings (or one large one), so i wasn’t making tons of soup that would go to waste. it’s going on the short list to make again.

when/if i move, i’m definitely considering letting my future roommate know that i’m starting to dabble in the kitchen – i think it would be a good selling point. my current roommate doesn’t quite get that i would share if i didn’t have so many of these infractions to dole out:
